Our #MVPtoVIP series celebrates the inspirational journeys of some of the fantastic founders in our Farillio network. This time, we're chatting to Timi, founder of Lunr. Get to know him better below...
Tell us about your business and the problem it solves
Lunr is a platform that makes it super simple for users to discover, sign up to and manage their subscriptions (e.g. Spotify, Netflix, PureGym, Glossybox)
What inspired you to launch it?
A few years ago, I began to notice, as a consumer, that more and more of the services I was using were subscription based. I thought this would present a great opportunity to put them all on one platform and provide value adding features around search and management, as well as deals and price comparison.
How far on your business journey are you, and what’s next on your to-do list?
The Lunr team has been working on Lunr for just under a year. We launched our website over the summer and we're now in the process of adding lots of subscription providers to the site.
What do you feel is the most challenging aspect of being a business owner?
Managing your own time. Everything you do (or don't) is up to you.
Tell us something that few people know about you
Lunr is my third business! At secondary school I used to sell music on the internet (via Myspace) and at university I ran a graphic design business. My businesses were called Beatmaker and Picmaker.
What’s the weirdest/funniest/most alarming [you choose!] thing anyone’s said to you in business?
I was pitching at an investor meeting in August and I got no further than two minutes in when the guy I was talking said "I don't think this [your idea] is going to work". I've since learnt that in business "no" doesn't always mean no. Sometimes it can mean "prove it".
Who would you most like to work with/sell to?
I would most like to work with the guys at Monzo or Starling Bank. They are two of my favourite startups from the last five years and have done really well, particularly in terms of branding and earning consumer trust. They both offer marketplace integrations on their platforms and there are definitely some synergies for Lunr.
What are you using Farillio for?
We use Farillio for its user guides. For the first time, we have all the legal help we need, online, and all in one place. Farillio is simple to use and you don't have to be a legal professional to be able to benefit.
What’s the most important piece of legal advice you’ve ever needed (so far)?
The most important help we've needed to date has been around setting up the company as a legal entity. There are so many different options, it's easy to get lost. We eventually settled for a limited company as it suits what we want to achieve.
