Ah, Christmas. The most magical time of the year...
The arrival of the first snow,
The vibrant streets,
The sweet mulled wine at the Christmas market
The scent of gingerbread on the air
And the warm embrace of your loved ones.
That’s the Christmas we all know and love.
But this year, Christmas will be different.
This year, Christmas may feel colder than it ever was.
And only a few of us will reach Christmas Eve without the scars of a battle hard fought.
Magic is still in the works.
Small businesses rise to bring us the magical Christmas we need.
Every day they face the cold, so you don’t have to.
Every day they work harder to bring you joy.
Every day they sustain the magic of Christmas.
So here’s to the courageous ones who never take ‘no’ for an answer.
Who trade living for today for dreaming of tomorrow.
Here’s to the brave who make the world go around, even in the darkest times.
What you do matters.
And while these dark times will come to pass, our gratefulness will endure.
And we will not leave you behind.
Because together, we are mighty.
Merry Christmas to all of Britain’s incredible small businesses.
This video - together with our biggest thank you - is for you.
The making of ‘The Gift’ – and why we did it
Giving a present is magical.
And it’s magical not just because of the thoughtfulness of the giver, but because of the creativity, commitment, passion, punctuality, customer-centricity and frankly – the sheer existence – of millions of small businesses across Britain.
They give us the choices, the ideas and inspiration, the means to buy and the means to receive, the gifts that we give. And they make these gifts meaningful, and personal.
From the designer of the wrapping paper, tags, ribbons and decorations, to the many creators of our favourite gifts, to the factory workers, van drivers, shelf stackers, payment takers, word spreaders, and everyone who supports and works for them… small businesses play a critical role in how we are able to celebrate and come together every Christmas.
This Christmas, they’ve never battled so hard to ensure that in spite of tremendous challenges that we’ve all experienced, the losses, the emotional rollercoasters, the real moments of fear, and doubt, and disappointment, they still keep that magic alive for us.
This year, together with so many of the huge ecosystem of experts and brands that partner with Farillio, we’ve talked to and supported thousands of businesses. We’ve campaigned, lobbied, re-imagined, reinvented and fought, alongside each other. And we’ve never tested Farillio’s mission, our values, as much and as hard as we have this year.
But it’s what we do. And it matters.
For every business that makes it to Christmas, there have been countless who’ve fallen by the way. Not because they weren’t great businesses and not because they did not have talented, committed, competent people managing and working in them. But because a pandemic doesn’t care. And our working and family lives have been fundamentally changed.
Still, we can all do our bit to help; and in doing so, we also honour those who did not make it, and who should still be here too.
So please, to every member of our community, and every person who reads our blog, this Christmas, make your contribution matter. Buy meaningful gifts that support our small businesses. And for every gift that you buy, take a moment to reflect on just how many small businesses made that gift possible, and how many small businesses you’re therefore helping to keep going.
This Christmas, help Britain ensure that we #LeaveNoSMEBehind.
Let’s come together, in spite of everything, and make this Christmas as special and as magical as it can be.
Because while few of us, on our own, have the power to make big differences, together, we are mighty, and we can.
